RV travel tipsIt’s road trip season, and what better way to take in the sights than from your RV? Traveling in a vehicle this size means taking in to account special concerns. Before you hit the open road, make sure you follow these RV travel tips to ensure a safe and smooth vacation.

  • Campground Reservations: It’s best to reserve an RV parking site in advance to avoid more costs or having to find a last-minute place to park. It’s an excellent idea to confirm your reservation the morning you’re set to arrive. If you’re going to be late, call the RV park ahead of time and let them know.
  • Road Conditions: View road conditions, closures and construction ahead of time by checking the US DOT Federal Highway Administration This will save you travel time and the stress of unwanted detours and traffic.
  • Packing: When packing for your RV trip, consider the following categories of necessary items: Food, bathing, relaxation, RV maintenance and emergency equipment.
  • RV Insurance: Insuring an RV with a typical auto policy will leave significant coverage gaps. RV’s should be insured with a specialized policy which takes in to account total loss replacement, replacement of personal belongings, full-timer liability, campsite liability, emergency expenses, higher liability limits, medium duty tow trucks and suspended collision coverage when in storage.
  • Campsite Safety: Some experts recommend that you get a locksmith to re-key the outside storage compartments of your RV— in many models, these are keyed the same from vehicle to vehicle. Be sure to park overnight in campgrounds that employ security guards, when possible.
